Frequently Asked Questions About Waxing

How long should I let the hair grow?

For first timers, it's typically recommended to let the area you desire to be waxed to grow about 6 to 8 weeks for all body waxing except Brazilian.  Allow 3-4 weeks of growth between Brazilian wax services. There are two reasons for this.  First, you can become more familiar with your growth cycle, as this does vary from person to person.  Second, the stage of hair growth (and there are 3 of them) varies from follicle to follicle - in 6 to 8 weeks all of these follicles will be showing and will be ready to be removed.  Usually the hair needs to be at least 1/4" long.

How long will the waxing last?

Waxing usually lasts 2 to 4 weeks, although, this is dependent on your particular growth tendencies and where you are in your growth cycle.

How often should I get waxed?

After your first initial visit, about every 3 to 4 weeks.

Will the hair grow back?

Yes, it will grow back but it should appear finer and more sparse.

When can't I get waxed?

When taking oral medications such as blood thinners, blood pressure medication, Tazorac, or Acutane (these will thin out your skin and could cause the top layer of your skin to "lift".  Also, it's suggested not to get waxed if using a topical medication, like Retin-A or if you've recently had the area waxed within the last 10 days.

What is the after care for waxing?

During the first 24 to 48 hours after your waxing service DO NOT do any of the following:

*Exfoliate the treated area.  You may exfoliate 24 hours before the waxing but the waxing itself will provide a rigorous exfoliation to the area.  After 24 to 48 hours it is good to exfoliate to keep away those pesky in-grown hairs!

*Tanning is not recommended due to the fact that the waxing increases sun sensitivity.

*Excessive workouts should be avoided.  The sweat and heat may cause in-grown hairs.

*Hot tubs and pools should be avoided.  The chlorine will cause skin irritation.

*Cleansing or moisturizing with scented products.  Using cool water, a non-synthetic tea tree oil, and a cotton pad would be a sufficient cleanser for the first 24 to 48 hours post-waxing.

Our aestheticians recommend using Aveda's Composition Oil as it is composed of jojoba oil which, on the molecular level, is the same as the oil as our bodies produce and also has vaso-constricting properties which will reduce redness and irritation.
